NW Caching

Welcome!

by admin on Feb.19, 2009, under Uncategorized

…to NW Caching - a Geocaching site for those in the North West of England - but all are welcome to join in!

We formed roundabout January 2007, and have grown ever since, with monthly caching meets around the area.  Get in touch if you fancy hosting one yourself.

The forums are probably the centre of all the action, but we also have our own Geocoin, cache series, log books, cache and car stickers, Flickr group, cache listing images, Travel Bug race and more.

Cache du jour

by admin on Apr.06, 2009, under Caches

Muttoneer started Cache du jour / Cache of the day.

Everyone has their favourite caches, and Muttoneer had seen several recommended on this site which he had found helpful considering the Northwest has more caches than he could ever have time to go and find!

So, he thought it might be a nice thing if between us all we recommended a cache a day which might help those of us who’ve not got our numbers very high yet to find some quality tupperware. Please include a link to the cache page and some detail on why you think it’s worth a visit.

If you have a suggestion for the Cache du jour,  simply state it here, and it’ll be added to PopUpPirate’s bookmark list.

Log books and stash notes

by admin on Apr.06, 2009, under Downloads

Get your log books, cache labels and other consumables for free, here. It’s advisable to right click and save these links.

Log Books

Micro Log Book

Standard Log Book

Stash Notes

A Stash Note placed inside a Geocache tells a muggle what the game is all about. Adding a stash note is proven to significantly reduce the possibility of a cache being muggled!

Farmyard Stash Note

Formal Stash Note

Muggle Notes

A Muggle Note lets members of the public (or maybe police) know exactly what you are doing, without having to explain the intricacies. Saves you having to write out web addresses to prospective converts, too!

Quadfold Muggle Note

Cache Label

This cache label is intended for placing on the inside of ANY lock-and-lock box. To use :

Print out full size, and fill in the blanks.

Place gently on the inside of your lock and lock lid, with the ink facing OUTWARDS (ie, through the plastic, so that it will be on view when the cache is hidden).

With a pen, draw on the INSIDE of the box around the edges, then cut to size.

Using decent glue, ie Bostik, Glue Gun, etc, coat the inside of the cache lid, then firmly press the ink side onto the glue, and let it set.

Little Quest

by admin on Apr.06, 2009, under Caches

Can you complete the LITTLE QUEST? Find a particular cache in every county to point you in the direction of the final cache.

Why “Little Quest”? Well, the final is a micro. No messing with big prizes, coins, cheating, etc etc, just a plain simple cache hunt and the pride of the find.

A cache in every county!

A cache in every county!

Check out the Geocaching.com Bookmark List!

According to Wikipedia, there are 47 ceremonial counties in England. Ceremonial counties are the “traditional” counties. This means that towns like Bolton and Wigan are classed as Lancashire, and the West Midlands still exist. Over 45 UK Geocachers have combined to create this series - it is a real collaborative team effort. If you have hidden a cache in the series, you are of course entitled to complete the series.

The 47 caches that lead to this final are all standard-sized boxes. Now, the final could of course had a wonderful prize. A Geocoin, perhaps. But it would have had to have been a really, really posh one. And it couldn’t have had any old trinkets in it. And it probably couldn’t even have been an ordinary ammo box! But then again… it could just be a micro… couldn’t it?

We shall go on to the end
We shall cache on the footpaths
We shall cache by the river and by the lakes
We shall cache with growing confidence and growing strength in the cities
We shall complete the Little Quest, whatever the cost may be
We shall cache on the beaches
We shall cache on the landing grounds
We shall cache in the fields and in the streets
We shall cache in the hills
We shall never surrender!

The difficulty / terrain of this as a standalone cache is approximately 2.5/2.5.

It should take around an hour to complete, and is a waterproof preform micro.
