Expired/unusable logs

Postby Salty-Cracker » Sat Jan 12, 2013 12:45 am

I have come across a couple of caches where the log is either full or saturated with water and unwriteable - what's the etiquette for replacing them?

I want to carry some replacement logs but I'm unsure what to do with the originals - especially with the nanos where there isn't room to replace them and leave the original with the cache.

I fix things for a living - keeping the logs usable feels like a continuation of my job and I just can't help myself.

Anyone?

PS - sorry of this has been asked before but I've trawled through the posts and haven't found an answer.

When I have replaced logs (or even done a bit of maintaining if the cache is damaged I send the cache owner an email through Geo.com - often I dont get a reply, so I keep the log for a couple of weeks then bin it - though i have also scanned it and posted pictures on a log post (write note) before now. Personally I wouldnt keep an old log, nor would I bother checking the signatures match the log entries but some people do.

I tend to replace the log and leave the sodden one under the cache, so it will not make the replacement wet. I post this action in the log. If the CO wants it they have the chance to come and get it. Normally they are unreadable if they are wet though.
