Wellies

Postby FFloss » Thu Jan 03, 2013 8:17 pm

I need some new wellies. To go caching in obviously. Is there a brand you would recommend?

I've always used Nikis Bogtrotters (now called Nokian Trimmi) before

These have excellent grip but the have started giving me blisters and they only reach half way up my calves - I could do with something longer.

Thanks

From having lived in Dumfries I would have to say Hunters. Not worn them myself, but I know people who use the outdoors. On the other hand I got a pair of wellies from Winfields (don't know the brand) but they have done me good.

If it carries on raining you might be better off with a pair of waders ;)
I ferret proofed my house... but they still keep getting in

I got myself some Muddies County Wellies. Being made of neoprene they are also very warm when stood in the middle of a stream signing a log.

£5.50 from Aldi, Steel Toe Caped. They were nice and comfy on a 3,5 mile walking on New Years day, taking in 20 Group FTF's (which to the shock of the Owner, I logged :o ) a Multi, Puzzle and a Event (logged whilst sat in the car waiting for everyone else to turn up) :D

I walk about 12 miles a day in these wellies, comfy but can feel heavy and stiff after a while. They're certainly are pricey, but I managed to bag a pair online for £35. I also have a cheap lighter weight pair which are much more flexible and no difference in slipperiness, I then stick a good quality insole in to take the ouch out of standing on sharp stones :)

My wife bought be a pair of green Dunlops for Christmas - nothing special but after a 3 mile meander across moorland, bog, heather, mud that came half way up the boots and stone paths they were warm and comfy with a suitable pair of wellington socks and made me thankful I hadn't brought my Timberland walking boots.

I didn't even know it existed! Thanks for the info :D

I have now been and splashed out on a pair of Muckboots. I like the stretchy top which fits over my fat calves

Muck boots took the skin off my heels after a half hour walk, I was gutted because I struggle with large calf muscles (fat legs!) and they seemed ideal. Just remember that neoprene isn't waterproof, so avoid wading above ankle depth! Great treads on Muck Boots :)

They're wellies that aren't waterproof and no better than a good stout pair of shoes then? :?
