your most popular cache hide

Postby Magna defender » Wed Jan 09, 2013 3:16 pm

before the forum deletion we had a thread where our most popular caches were listed. I think it was a few years ago when mine was GC1MMZ1 now since I've adopted it GCBEC then the next one is GC2NV2F due it being a tourist spot. Anyone else got any quite popular caches ? By popular I mean its got the most logs not favourites.

There was? :?

TBH I can't see the point. A cache with lots of finds is one that is easily accessible to lots of people, it has nothing to do with cache quality :?

A cache with lots of finds is one which lots of people have gone to look for. It doesn't mean it's not a quality cache just because it is accessible to more people. It could be a very good cache.

They don't have to be at the top of mountains to be good.

Chester City Cache - Eastgate Clock has now reached 913 finds so if you include the 92 DNFs and the numerous others who DNF'd it but didn't log it then it has had well over 1000 visitors. I think it is a quality cache :)

I wonder which cache has had the most DNF's? I would love to know how many people didn't bother logging a DNF on Eastgate Clock.

Our highest has had 229 finds in just over six months, with no DNFs so far (touch wood!). Quality? No, just sheer opportunity! :D

Surely the Favourite Point Ratio is a better indicator of quality, no? It's 4% on the cache above, surely that says much more about it than the number of finds. ;)

GCV9BX Saint Leverhulmes Folly at 616. More then 3 times as many visits as my next one which has 196. When we had this discussion on the old forum I asked if there were any other caches in the North west that could beat SLF. Chester City clock was one and I think we only found one other one. I would be interested to know if that's still the case. I always assumed that one of the long established power trails would eventually catch it up, but if you take the North Wests oldest power trail (Oldham Way), they are on about 360.

My most favourited cache is Pump on 24 favourite points (out of 58 finds).

I've never gone off the ratio thing because it doesn't work in the case of puzzle caches where like its only got three finds and they all leave a favourite to worship the cache owner

Yes, I see your point Jack, but the worship is a bit strong..

my puzzle caches have a 80-100% ratio of find logs and favourite points... so kneel before me and worship.....

My most visited is a micro by the canal (Muttoneers Monster) but this has no FPS, and my most favourited is an earthcache with easy access: both these were adopted.

The one with the highest proportion FPs (67%) is in a fab spot on the moors (Dragon's Lair), which is as it should be :) The Ammo can on the moors is just behind (60%). :D

My puzzle cache has 32% FPs so I think TMD is exaggerating a tad :o

I guess Manchester Invasion could be classed as a popular hide considering it's a multi and takes you on an approximate 3 mile walk round Manchester City centre with 218 finds, 24 DNFs and 46% favourite points.

Strangely, when the geocacheuk site was up and running and they had their cache rating system, this was actually the lowest rated of my caches, which at the time I thought was a bit harsh.

The Eastgate clock cache gets a huge number of foreign visitors and tourists which is why it has had so many visits. I only hid it when someone gave me a nano many years ago and challenged me to hide it. I wasn't really bothered with it at the time but I've grown very attached to it now purely because of its popularity and I think its pretty good for a city centre cache next to a major sight.
