Can you lose form?

Postby Kelsborrow Wayfinders » Mon Feb 11, 2013 2:56 pm

Partly prompted by the other DNF thread I have often wondered if it is possible to lose form searching for geocaches.

I was out caching last week for the first time in 19 days and managed more DNF's than finds. While that is not particularly unusual I wasn't entirely convinced I was "fully fit" to borrow a footballing analogy. While one of the DNF's had indeed gone, one was easy and the other one I have now had a few attempts on. In looking for all these caches I never felt convinced I would find them, even the ones I actually did get.

The following day I went out caching again and only got one DNF and that was more because I got muggled rather than my incompetence. Some of the hides were tricky but I felt match fit again and didn't have much difficulty with most of them and only needed the hint on a couple of occasions.

Has anyone else noticed anything similar or indeed have you gone through phases where you have struggled on caches you would normally find straightforward.

i suppose it is whether you are ( to use another sporting cliche) "Up for it"
I have frequently got to a few caches and have decided after hunting for a short while.. I really cant be ...rsed and got on with the walk instead. this usually happens with drive bys but occasionally when out walking.

I think there is a touch of that but under normal circumstances I feel that my first find last week would have been a lot faster if I had been caching on the days leading up to it. In some ways I find the same thing happens to me when I go caching in a new area. It can often take a couple of caches to get into the swing of things but I find that I gradually get my eye in and then they become a lot easier.

After being absent for a couple of years it took some getting back into. However it adds spice to the search and the walk if the cache if a wee more difficult to locate.

I have had days where I struggle, despite checking clues and looking at past pictures. TO be honest I think these days are down to the quality of the caches, well thats my excuse

I had a slow day yesterday on the omega series, but that was due to the quality of the hides that were excellent and well above the average which meant i got frustrated because i couldn't find the blessed things, have got so used to walking up looking at the base of a tree and there is the cache barely hidden under some sticks, yesterday was a lot harder. :D
