Repairing walking boots

Postby teamhillside » Tue Feb 12, 2013 10:12 am

I've got some nice Asolo leather walking boots which I've had for about 13 years, not over-used. The Vibram soles on both shoes are now starting to come away from the mid-sole, and after trying some "no more nails" (which didn't stick well) I'd like to find a solution to getting them stuck back on!

I've tried a shoe repair shop (well, Johnson's) and they didn't want to know.

Any recommendations from you wise and well-foottrodden individuals as to a good solution?

(Buying a new pair is a last resort option!!)

Thanks for that link. That might be a better option, but I could instead pick up a pair of low end Karrimor leather walking boots for £40 which might work equally well. Shame having items repaired is often more expensive than a buy and replace cycle (where you are prepared to accept lower quality for a shorter life span).

They do a good job not only on boots but on jackets etc. I take my Berghaus Trango Extreme there one a year for cleaning and proofing. Purchased a pair of Karrimor boots (not cheap) in the middle of last year and the soles lasted no time, one trip of the Easedale round, and the soles were shot to pieces. Yes they were descibed as 3 season walking boots and I did get a refund as they were not fit for the purpose they were described for. Thought that would be more economical than re-soling etc but I was wrong.

Thanks Kev, I have just taken mine in for a repair. While I was there, I found that they also have a small shop selling seconds. No guarantee that they will have what you want but worth a look if you are in the area.
